Artist’s Statement

My art invites the viewer to explore the psyche and its diverse states of being.  The work mirrors the richly-layered tapestry of my urban environment: billboards and sidewalks provide the visual metaphors while my own experiences and a life spent analyzing the origins, complexities and patterns of human behavior provide the themes.   I work expressionistically to create imagery that weaves a multi-layered tapestry that speaks of abiding needs and desires.  Whether I’m working in acrylic, printmaking, collage, watercolor or using my own poetry or using some favorite song lyrics, I create a sort of subliminal chaos, letting the piece tell me what it wants and needs in order to tell the story I need to tell.  Sometimes this process can take hours, often it takes years.  The completed work evolves to becomes its own living statement, singular and independent in its meaning yet familiar and universal in its message.
