Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2004, Mara’s singular hobby and obsession has been restoring historic Angeleno properties. Renowned for her virtually encyclopedic knowledge of homes in her beloved neighborhood of Hancock Park, Mara has a unique knack for seeing the ‘home’ in any house, at any price point, whether turnkey or fixer.
Mara can advise sellers on how to expertly prepare a house for market and share from experience everything from the perfect paint color to the best plumber. She is valued by her clients and neighbors for her meticulous attention to detail, sophisticated flair for architectural design, practical advice for home remodels and ear for understanding exactly what her clients need and want.
Mara joins deasey/penner following a 20+ year, Emmy-award winning career in the communications industry, serving as a senior producer and on-air talent in CNN’s Washington, New York and Los Angeles bureaus.
In her spare time, Mara has been active in the communities of each of her children’s schools, including the Marlborough School, Campbell Hall, St. James Episcopal School and 3rd Street School. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the Phillips Academy (Andover) Southern California Alumni Association.
Mara and her husband John live in Hancock Park with their children Jack and Whitney, along with Gracie, their misbehaved Golden Retriever.
