The well-preserved exterior of Santa Monica Historical Landmark #37 is a classic example of a certain Craftsman style associated with aeroplanes: The wide overhanging gables at alternating heights gives the impression that these roof planes are about to take flight but remain at the same time organically rooted to the site. This genre specifically suited California by abandoning the Victorian stateliness for relaxed, open floorplans and broad porches shaded by the hovering rooflines.
