Contemporary Architecture in harmony with nature! A rare offering of synergy in design, craftsmanship, sustainability and location collaboratively created by Buzz Yudell & Tina Beebe. Realized for themselves with the intention of residing in the house for many years the design became a case study in creating a place of harmony and wonder while reaching for ambitious environmental goals, including working toward a net-zero energy house. The flexibility of the floor plan offers a comfortable platform for families, individuals or couples alike. The two-story space at the core of the house is not only environmentally critical, but functions as a kind of piazza which links all the living spaces. The primary level encompasses the indoor entertaining areas, including the living, dining room, a library/guest room, kitchen and garden room leading to the pool. The indoor spaces transition to the outdoors, while translucent canopies provide a shaded outdoor dining room and a separate “tearoom". The second floor is comprised of two large studio/office/bedrooms situated in the front of the house connected to the master area by a bridge/walkway gallery-like space linking all the rooms and creating a transitional zone. All rooms on both levels benefit from the careful washing of daylight and framed views of the drought-tolerant landscape. Since completion the house has been published and recognized internationally for both design and sustainability.
