Set on a knoll under a soaring Chinese elm tree, an English cottage on Marigold Street is one of the original homes that Elisha Janes, a New York transplant, built in Altadena in the 1920s.
The 1928 home is located in Janes Village, designated as an ”Altadena Heritage” area in 2002.
In their day, Janes houses went for $7,950-$11,000, vintage advertisements show. Today, the Janes cottage at 385 W. Marigold Street is selling for $799,000.
The one-story cottage has 1,250 square feet, with three bedrooms and a single bathroom. It still has the original tile.
A curved staircase leads to the picturesque front porch. Inside, a barrel ceiling tops an imposing, wood burning fireplace, and light pours in through double hung and casement windows. French doors, coved ceilings, picture rails and hardwood floors are among the interior features.
