More than 1,000 buildings in Los Angeles are designated Historic-Cultural Monuments, marking a significant contribution to the history of the city. And now you could own one of them. Built by architect R. M. Schindler in 1925, the James Eads Howe House has a garden by Richard Neutra, making it a rare collaboration of two great minds as well as a protected site. Considered one of Schindler’s most important works, the Silver Lake, California, home is situated on a hillside, with the communal living areas on the top level and the bedrooms below. Its design, featuring interlocking shapes and varying volumes, was quite progressive for the time. Inside the redwood residence, the two-story living room has paneling on the ceiling and walls, while the dining room includes a large picture window and a fireplace.
